Serving the Lord’s Children

Hello, everybody! How are you doing in your various locations? I am doing quite well here in 日本下関 (Shimonoseki, Japan)!

This week has been superb! We had two lessons with Miyamura, our investigator with a baptismal date, and she is progressing very well! On Tuesday we taught her the Ten Commandments (it was more like a review, since she had already learned about them in another Christian church), taught about the Spirit, and shared Elder Bednar’s "Patterns of Light: Spirit of Revelation" (which she loved). We also gave her a copy of President Monson’s most recent General Conference talk (about temples) to read. On Friday we followed up on the talk, thinking that she might not have finished it yet since it was a bit longer than previous things we had given her to read, but she said that she had read it three times! We taught a bit more about following and sustaining church leaders, asked if she would follow the counsel of the prophet, and she responded, "Yes, definitely!" We also asked if she believes that this is the true church, and she said that she does, and that it makes a lot more sense than what she had learned in other churches when she was younger. We also changed her baptismal date to August 15th instead of August 1st simply because we need a little more time to finish teaching her. She is definitely prepared! Yesterday during Gospel Principles class we were learning about Fasting, and when Miyamura heard that next week is fast Sunday she asked if she has to wait until after her baptism to donate fast offerings. We were quite surprised by her question, but assured her that the Lord would accept her offering to his children before baptism. The Lord is so wonderful! 🙂

About a month and a half ago Elder Klein (my previous companion) and I contacted a man named Ijichi. However, because of his work schedule (he works night shift and sleeps during the day) and because he lives about a 45-minute bike ride down on Hikoshima Island, we have not really been able to meet with him since that time. Three weeks ago he called and said he would come to church on the 26th of this month. Then, last week he sent an email saying that he was still planning on coming but was wondering whether he should wear formal or casual clothes. And yesterday he kept his commitment and came to church! He was only able to stay for sacrament meeting because he was a bit tired, but he said that church was enjoyable and he wants to come again! We will definitely find time to meet with him again.

Apparently there’s a World Scouting Jamboree going on over near Ube, and on Saturday Elder Whisenant and I went with our branch president to help set up for that. We got very sunburnt, but it’s all for a good cause! 🙂

I am so grateful for the opportunity to be serving the Lord’s children! It is wonderful! Unfortunately, an hour is not nearly enough time to list all of the miracles that I have been blessed with, so that which I have written will have to suffice.

I know this is the Lord’s work. I know this is His true church. I love sharing that truth with other people. Something that has really hit me lately is the great need that the world has for more missionaries! Every time we travel from city to city (for District/Zone meetings, trainings, etc.) and pass by the "smaller" cities, I realize that most of these areas have probably never been visited by missionaries. There are so few missionaries for so many people! However, as long as we rely on Him the Lord will guide us to those who are prepared. I wish there was more time to find them!
