Ups and Downs and Ups Again!

Hello, everybody! How are you all doing in your various locations? I am doing quite well here in Shimonoseki, Japan!

This week has been quite wonderful! We met a few times with Fukatani and throughout the first half of the week she was up and down with wanting and not wanting to be baptized. Satan really does not want people to come unto Christ. Sometimes Fukatani’s (often irrational) fears would overcome her faith, but then she would have a
faith-building experience and those fears would recede to the background, but then another fear would come up the following day. However, on Wednesday after English class we had a lesson with them at which our angel member Koganemaru – who has been superb at
fellowshipping Fukatani – joined for the lesson, and we had a very good lesson that night, on Friday, and on Sunday as well. Her baptism was announced at church on Sunday, and she seemed very excited for it. We continue to pray and work so that all will go well this Saturday.

Tanaka is also doing very well! We are going to push his baptismal date back two weeks (to November 7th) to ensure that he is
understanding the commitments that he is making. As we discussed him in weekly planning we were a little worried about how well he was understanding the message. However, that night we received a call from him informing us that he was at the church and wondering where we were at! Apparently there was a bit of a mix-up for the day and time of that lesson. Oh, well. We headed over to the church and had a great lesson during which we read together in Book of Mormon about Lehi’s vision of the iron rod and the Tree of Life; we were inspired during that lesson to ask questons that helped us determine that he actually does understand and remember what we have taught, and also has a growing testimony that it is true. When we asked whether he believes that what we have taught is true, he responded that he wouldn’t keep coming to church if he didn’t believe it! 🙂 Well, that is very true, especially since he often seems to struggle to stay awake throughout sacrament meeting. Whenever we ask him how church was, he says that he liked the talks but was a bit tired. However, he continues to progress quite well.

We saw lots of other miracles this week, but I do not have time to enumerate all of them. I am grateful to be here at this time. I know that this is the Lord’s work, and I love it!

I hope that you all have a wonderful day, a superb week, and a fantastic year!
